#Solo Songs “Miss Me More” and “She Let Herself Go”

The women in the country songs “Miss Me More” and “She Let Herself Go” have broken up their relationships — and they couldn’t be happier.

In “Miss Me More,” Kelsea Ballerini’s hit from 2017, the song pulsates as the narrator lists all the things she can do – wear her high heels, put on her favorite shade of lipstick, play music she likes – because her boyfriend didn’t approve of them. “I forgot I had dreams, I forgot I had wings/Forgot who I was before I ever kissed you/Yeah, I thought I'd miss you/But I miss me more,” sings Ballerini, who wrote the song with David Hodges and Brett McLaughlin.

While that song’s musicality seems inspired by Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” George Strait’s 2005 hit, “She Let Herself Go,” follows a traditional country instrumentation and fun wordplay. Written by Kerry Kurt Phillips and Dean Dillon, the protagonist is out traveling, going to the beach and living her best life after her husband left her. “When he said he didn't love her no more,” Strait sings, “She let herself go.”

In a society that constantly makes singles feel like they’re miserable people, these songs show that life can be better after a relationship, one where you can make the choices and be yourself.
